Privacy and terms
These are drafts and are not in force. They say how Simple Jacks intends to handle your information and what membership asks of you. Words in square brackets are not decided yet.

Who we are
Simple Jacks is run by [to be filled by Simple Jacks: the operator’s legal name and address]. Write to [to be filled by Simple Jacks: a privacy contact address] about anything in this notice.
What we collect, and why
On simplejacks.ai: nothing that identifies you. The pages load our analytics tag. It counts visits with no cookie, no storage and no personal data, and honours Do Not Track. This site has no form and does not load a form-consent tag.
When you join the waitlist or become a member: your email address, your sign-in, whether you are on the waitlist, a member or paused, and the dates of each. We need these to open your account and to keep the beta to its limited places.
When you use Chat: the questions you ask and the answers given, so you can see your history, and a count of how much of your monthly allowance you have used. To answer, your question is sent to the AI model provider that runs Chat.
When you download an app: which app and version, and when, so we can tell you about updates and problems.
The Financial Record measures reading only if you allow it, and its own privacy note says how.
Who else handles it
Companies that run parts of Simple Jacks for us handle your information only to do that: our sign-in provider (Clerk), our member records (Convex), our hosting (Vercel) and the AI model provider behind Chat (Anthropic).
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
How long we keep it
Account records are kept while you are a member and for [to be filled by Simple Jacks: a period after you leave]. Chat history is kept for [to be filled by Simple Jacks: a period], and you can ask us to delete it sooner.
Your choices
You can ask to see what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it and close your account, by writing to [to be filled by Simple Jacks: a privacy contact address]. Leaving the waitlist or closing your account does not cost anything.
Changes
When this notice changes, the new version is published here with its date before it applies, and members are told by email.
TermsDraft
The free beta
Simple Jacks is in a free beta. Membership is by invitation from the waitlist, places are limited to 50 members, and no purchase or payment method is asked for. We may change what the beta includes, or end it, and members are told first.
Your account
An account is for one person. Keep your sign-in to yourself; what is done with it is treated as done by you.
The chat allowance
Each member’s chat has a monthly allowance. When it is used up, chat pauses until the first of the next month. Nothing is charged, and the allowance cannot be bought or moved to someone else.
Not advice
Our reporting, Chat’s answers, the Law Library and the downloads are not tax or legal advice. The Law Library is an unofficial compilation: check the official publisher before you rely on a line. Calculations are not certified. Decisions are yours, and so is checking the sources.
Downloads
Apps marked as previews are unfinished and may change or fail; save your work before updating. No app carries a credential. Where an app works with your own access, such as an IRS e-file account, that access is yours and so is its use.
Fair use
Do not try to get around the allowance or the sign-in, copy the library or the Record in bulk beyond the feeds we publish for that, or use Simple Jacks for anything unlawful. We may pause or close an account that does, and will say why.
Liability and the law that applies
[to be filled by Simple Jacks: limits of liability]. These terms are governed by [to be filled by Simple Jacks: the governing law and courts].
Contact
Write to [to be filled by Simple Jacks: a contact address].
How The Financial Record measures reading is in its own privacy note, and how it reports is in its standards.
